Natural herbs cause low sex drive

Yes, natural organic herbs in “healthy” products can create low sex drive.  Just because  it is a “natural healthy” product does not mean it is good for you.

After a big rain, mushrooms grow in your yard.  Those mushrooms are natural organic.  Why don’t you eat them?  Mushrooms in your yard are natural and organic, but you don’t eat them.

Similarly many herbs commonly found in cosmetics and toiletries have estrogenic effects.  These may make for low libido.  Conversely, there are other herbs that boost libido.  What are some of these?  Maca a progesterone mimic is fabled to increase and boost libido for some.

I had one patient that I could not get well.   I checked all her cosmetics and toiletries as well as supplements for cosmetics and toiletries that did not have any xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens.   At that time, she was “clean” as far as I could tell.  Then, I found out that she raised lavender for a living.  I had never seen lavender as a hormone disrupter in the folk medicine literature.  At that time, I was stumped.

Later in 2006, Bloch, MD, a pediatric endocrinologist, had five young boys with gynecomastia.  Gynecomastia is men growing women’s breasts.  Normally, mainstream medicine sends the boys to surgery and the “man boobs” are surgically reduced.

Bloch, MD did a very careful medical history and found that the parents of of the young boys with gynecomastia had given them lavender oil and tea tree oil to put on their skin.  When he told the parents to stop putting lavender and tea tree on their boys, the enlarged breasts disappeared.  Bloch, MD wanted to confirm his findings.  So he took the lavender oil and tea tree and did a cell hormone test on them.

He took breast cancer cells that multiplied with estrogen in a test tube.  He then added tea tree oil and lavender oil separately to the two sets of breast cancer cells and found that it made the breast cancer cells multiply.  Thus, tea tree oil and lavender oil mimicked estrogen.

Furthermore, Bloch, MD tested the lavender oil and tea tree oil to a second set of breast cancer cells that were bread to sense testosterone.  He found that the tea tree oil and lavender oil blocked testosterone.

Thus, boys that use lavender and tea tree oil were being hit with a “double whammy”.  Not only was the tea tree oil and lavender oil mimicking estrogen; these two oils were also suppressing testosterone.

Not good.  And how can this be good for your sex drive?

Clinically, I can say that my patients have complained of increased migraine headaches if they are prone to them with the use of lavender products.

Lavender and tea tree oil may create a low libido (sexual desire).

Aloe is a common additive to many lotions and skin care products.  I am from Hawaii, and I used to have an aloe plant growing in my garden.  Every time I had a sunburn, I used to break off a leaf of aloe and and fillet it open.  I would rub the slimy cooling sap on my sun burnt skin.  Aloe sap worked wonders!

According to Encyclopedia of Birth Control by Vern Bullough, aloe is used in some cultures to create a miscarriage.   If you do not want your pregnancy, in this culture, if you take enough aloe, it will cause a miscarriage in the first trimester.

Remember that anything on the skin is 10 times more potent than anything taken orally.

Progesterone is the hormone of pregnancy and  you need sufficient levels of progesterone to maintain the pregnancy.  The “morning after” pill works to create a miscarriage by blocking progesterone.  The “morning after” pill fits into the progesterone receptor, but does NOT stimulate the progesterone receptor.  Thus, the “morning after” pill is a progesterone blocker.

So if aloe is a miscarriage creator in the first trimester, then aloe must be a progesterone blocker.

Progesterone can give a woman’s sex drive a boost assuming you avoid xenoestrogens.  Aloe blocks progesterone.  Aloe would cause low libido.

Anything that blocks progesterone blocks libido.  Aloe destroys your libido.

So the Shampoo or Skin Lotion that you are using on your skin that contains aloe may be creating low sex drive.

Google Aloe and Miscarriage

Endometriosis patients frequently have low sex drive.  Endometriosis is a disease of exposure to xenoestrogens.   Sunflower oil and its botanically similar oil Safflower oil is a phytoestrogen that may lower your sex dive.  I had one endometriosis patient binge on potato chips cooked in sunflower oil.  Her endometriosis flared for a week.  Sunflower seeds were fed to pregnant rats.  The male rat pups displayed aberrant mounting behavior and fewer ejaculations.  The female rat pups also had irregular menstrual cycles.

So Sunflower oil and Safflower oil may are hormone active and may create low libido.  Conversely, sexual desire will be restored if you avoid sunflower and safflower (avoid them with all the other xenoestrogens).

Pomegranate is widely touted as having high amounts of antioxidants and is advertised as being “good for you”.  However, pomegranate is used in pre biblical times to create miscarriage.  Again progesterone is made by the body to maintain the pregnancy.  Anything that causes a miscarriage is a progesterone blocker like the “morning after” pill. Progesterone increases your sex drive.  Anything that blocks progesterone is a sex drive destroyer.

The ancient Greeks favored this plant as a contraceptive. Recent scientific research showed strong estrogen activity. Pomegranate has modern use in India, East Africa, and the Pacific as a contraceptive. Pomegranate seed used as feed for female rats and paired with male rats had a 72% reduction in fertility. Pomegranate seeds fed to Guinea Pigs showed a 100% reduction in fertility. (Source:  The Encyclopedia of Birth Control by Vern Bullough).

I did have one patient with a severe case of endometriosis.  One of her local stores had a sale on pomegranate juice and fruit.  So this patient bought a case of pomegranate and juice and binged on it.  She claimed that her endometriosis flared for 2 weeks.

Endometriosis patients typically have low sexual desire.  Is this low libido from the pain or the xenoestrogens?

Mint, Spearmint, Peppermint, Pennyroyal, Sage, Majoram, Thyme, Rosemary, Hyssop stop gonadatropin or prolactin secretion.  These herbs were used to create miscarriage or as contraceptives.  These herbs are all members of the mint family.

Pennyroyal is a part of folk medicine that acts as an abortifacient.  Modern scientific research revealed theat Pennyroyal contained Pulegone.  Pulegone terminates pregnancies and in large amounts is toxic to the liver.  Pulegone in large amounts may have killed both the fetus and the mother.  Seems to me that it can’t be good for your libido.

How can this be good for your sex drive?

Again, anything put on the skin is 10 times the dose in potency because it goes right into the body.  Anything taken orally, is 90% prefiltered by the liver.  So it is more important to concentrate on the things that are put on the skin rather that what you eat.

Unfortunately, most of the cosmetics and toiletries in the health food store contain herbs and ingredients that are hormone disruptive.  These herbs look innocuous, but under closer informed scientific study, they are hormone disruptive and will frequently lead to a low libido.

This hormone disruption is how plants fight back at animals.  If you plant Rosemary in your yard, the deer do not eat them.  There is a good reason why the deer do not eat them.  The deer do not eat them because the herbs will mess with their reproduction ability.

The herbs can’t be be good for you either.  Anything that is negative for your reproductive ability can’t be good for your libido.
