Here is a list of drugs that have the potential to hormone disrupt and cause low libido. Many of these drugs double as hormone disrupters. Anything with a benzene ring in it has the potential for fitting into a hormone receptor.
A common scenario in my practice is finding a women that is using many cosmetics and toiletries. These products may even be from a health food store. These cosmetics and toiletries may contain xenoestrogens (environmental estrogens). This makes the woman Estrogen Dominant. She then has a psychological depression.
She is prescribed an anti-depressant. The anti-depressant creates low libido. Her husband is now very grouchy. This creates more depression.
The solution is to avoid the xenoestrogens in the first place. Then take Natural Progesterone cream. This boosts libido. Again, remember that during the second and third trimester of pregnancy sexual desire is extremely high. This is due to high levels of progesterone and perhaps estriol.
Then, get off the anti-depressant slowly with your physicican.
Here are some of the drugs as reported to the FDA that impair sexual function and / or lower sex drive. These include classes of drugs such as:
Anti-depressants (including the notorious SSRIs)
Anti-ulcer drugs
Hypertension drugs (Blood Pressure pills)
Anti-Anxiety drugs
Here is a list of drugs and medications that are reported to cause low libido. Be mindful that the FDA does not have an organized way of collecting accurate information about sexual side effects. Cases accumulate in a haphazard manner and may not reflect the likelihood that the drug will interfere with sexuality. Don’t jump to conclusions. Discuss this with your health care provider whether or not this drug is causing your low libido. Just because the drug is not listed here does not mean it may not be affecting your libido.
The brand names of drugs that cause low sex drive are listed in the first list. Then the generic names that lower sexual desires are listed in the second list.
