for magnesium
chocolate craving

Estrogen Dominance caused by xenoestrogens causes a Magnesium Deficiency.   Chocolate is high in magnesium.  So that’s why you have  a craving for it.  If you are still cycling, you will have a chocolate craving rigtht before your period.  A Magnesium Deficiency causes:

• Muscle Tensing

• Calcium Deposits

Muscle tensing manifests in:

• Constipation

• Uterus Cramping

• Cold hands and feet

• Leg Cramps - Charlie Horse

• Migraine Headaches

• Restless Leg Syndrome

• Some Cases of Reynaud’s Syndrome

• Some aspects of Fibromyalgia

• Spasms and Facial Tics

• Heart Palpitations

• Heart Arrhythmias

• Some aspects of Preeclampsia

Calcium deposits manifest in:

• Microcalcifications in breast tissue found on x-ray

• Bone spurs on the foot bones or spine

• Kidney Stones

Whenever you are magnesium deficient, muscles tense up and spasm.  The most common spasm that I see is the uterus spasm.  These are known as menstrual cramps.  Cramps certainly put a damper on libido.  The leg muscles spasm.  This is commonly known as a “Charlie Horse”.  Facial spasms and tics can also be caused by a magnesium deficiency.  The “jumpy” feeling in Restless Leg Syndrome patients in the leg may be due to a Magnesium Deficiency.

The arteries of the body have a muscular sheath.  When there is a magnesium deficiency, this muscle around the artery contracts and closes off the artery.  The most obvious one is the arteries feeding the hands and feet.  The arteries can constrict especially when you put your hand into cold water.  Or the woman may feel like her hands and feet are cold all the time.  The arteries of the brain may also constrict.  Voila. You get a headache.  Migraine headaches may in part be caused by a magnesium deficiency.

The intestine is simply a muscular tube.  The muscular tube muscle tenses up with a magnesium deficiency.  When your intestines tense up you get constipation.  Conversely,  when you take too much magnesium, you may have loose stools.

The heart is simply another muscle.  When the heart spasms, we call this an arrhythmia.  Heart palpitations are when you can feel your heart beating rapidly and are aware of your heart beating rapidly.  Heart palpitations also seem to go away with magnesium supplementation in the context of Estrogen Dominance.

Calcium and Magnesium are related.  When magnesium is low, calcium begins to deposit out of the blood and into places where it should not be.  Frequently, bone spurs appear typically on the insertion of the tendon onto the calcaneus, the bottom of the heel.  You also need a trigger such as being overweight, dancing or poorly fitting shoes.  The part of the ligament that inserts into the heel bone becomes inflamed and the body begins to deposit calcium there.  This bone spur also seems to be associated with women that are very hard on themselves.  It is usually associated with a sharp stabbing pain on the inside of the heel.  It is the most painful thing in the first part of the morning.

Another place a bone spur appears is in the shoulder. Bone spurs can form between your shoulder and upper arm. They can pinch the rotator cuff tendons.  This gives irritation, inflammation, stiffness, weakness, pain, and sometimes tearing of the tendon.

Frequently, radiologists find microcalcifications in the breast on x-ray.  These look like little pieces of sand.   They may or may not be associated with breast cancer.

These breast microcalcifications are due to low magnesium.  When the magnesium is low, calcium begins to deposit everywhere.  Magnesium is low because of Estrogen Dominance ( too much estrogen ).  Estrogen Dominance makes the sex drive low.  Show me a woman with calcium microcalcifications and I will show you a patient with low libido and PMS.

I just got the results of the mammogram yesterday and it is normal.

I have some questions regarding the Progestelle.

I started taking the Progestelle in August because I had breast surgery last Feb. to remove some calsifications. They did a followup exam in August stating the ones had not returned but I had new ones in the right breast. I explained I didn't want another surgery because I still have burning and itching from the original surgery scar. The scar is about 6 inches across and is reddish purple and has the waffled skin look to it. The surgeon told me that they would monitor it for six months but if the pain and itching still continued, I might have to go on male hormones, which I refused to do.

This is when I did my research on the internet about polycystic ovaries and fibrocystic breast disease, of which I have both and have never been able to conceive a child. I am now 41 and time is really running out for me. I was even on Clomid for awhile and all it did was to make my ovaries blow up like Popeye's arms. My OB/GYN wants to refer me to an infertility clinic in Indianapolis but the insurance won't cover any treatment since my husband works for a catholic hospital and our insurance is through his work. It basically covers the diagnosis. Most of these clinics want the money upfront and we just don't have that kind of money for treatment. I am really thinking about changing my OB/GYN to see if they can prescribe another infertility medication that might work for me.

I just had my followup breast exam last week and during the interim, I have removed all caffeine from my diet and no longer use sunflower seeds as well as using the Progestelle oil. My OB/GYN basically told me a couple of weeks ago that this is a complete waste of money and doesn't do anything (this was before I had my mammogram).

I just got the results of the mammogram yesterday and it is normal. I see my surgeon on Tuesday for the followup. He doesn't know I started this treatment last August and I have no idea what his reaction will be to it. The only thing I know is that there were calsifications in there last August requiring extra pictures and now I am clear. The only thing I have done differently is use the Progestelle and cut the caffeine and sunflower seeds. Is this a common result for the Progestelle and does it help with infertility?

I have also lost about 45 pounds since August and am still losing weight. The doctor had prescribed some diet pills for me but I don't like the side effects (they make you mean) and are addictive so I only take them once in a while (one a week at the most). Does the Progestelle cause weight loss of this magnitude as well?

What Kind of Magnesium Should I Take?

Taking Magnesium Glycinate 400-600 mg/day with progesterone, and avoiding xenoestrogens is able to dissolve the calcium microcalcifications.

Magnesium Oxide is cheap, but absorption is only 4%.  So it is not worth your time and money.  Magnesium sulfate (epson salts) is also cheap, but absorption is also very poor.

Take a chelated magnesium like Magnesium Glycinate.  It may have an absorption rate much higher some where on the order of 40%.  Some of my patients like Magnesium Chloride sprayed directly on the skin.  However, I personally have not had  experience with it.

How Do I Know the Magnesium is Working?

You know Magnesium is working when the muscle tics and tensing goes away.  You know the Magnesium is working when your chocolate craving goes away.

If you stop the Magnesium and the chocolate craving stays away, then you have successfully gotten rid of all xenoestrogens.  If the chocolate craving comes back, then chances are you still have xenoestrogens in your environment, or you need to take the magnesium just a little longer to get rid of your magnesium deficiency.

Cuttting out xenoestrogens should result in a boost in libido.
